Retail location inventory tracking
Problem
Companies that place inventory in retail locations they don't operate often lose track of it. Spreadsheets, the company's own ERP, and vendor-managed inventory systems each cover part of the picture, but none give real-time visibility. Inventory data typically doesn't show up until it hits the books, so there's little to no live oversight of what's actually sitting in a given store, in what condition, or what it's worth. A rep can show up to a location with no way to reconcile what should be there against what actually is. Units go untracked, some in large enough numbers to represent a meaningful share of total inventory value, and untracked units eventually get written off. The gap also costs sales and staff time spent chasing down what happened to a given unit.
Solution
A dashboard provides a central location to review inventory details for every retail location. The dashboard becomes where inventory is actually managed, tracking each unit at a granular level and matching it back to its retail location in the company's ERP for inventory valuation and sales purposes. That closes the gap that existed before since the company can see nationwide inventory numbers systemically instead of piecing them together after the fact. A map shows the full scale of units in the field, and units can be viewed by sales rep or by condition. Selecting a unit opens its detail, including a photo, the store's address, and its review dates. A mobile application with AI capabilities enables field representatives to update a unit record by taking a photo on their phone and uploading it to the record. AI reviews the photo to assess the unit's condition, and logic in the application suggests an updated price based on that condition, removing a lot of manual work from the employee. Each change is kept as a history, so the application shows how a unit's condition and value have moved over time. Field reps get an easier way to keep records current, and the corporate team gets visibility across every location without waiting on a manual count.
